3st dossier – no flintoff todossier

making it simple

theres 2 deliveries

short / full

depending on the match

situation one is good

the other bad

1st day australia correctly applied this morality

good n full to the top and middle orders get them driving

good n short to savage the lower order

2st day englands attempt at piety failed

and fell into a morass of immoral short bowling

bad short to the top and middle orders

bad short to the tail

dry bones can harm no one

therere no templates for the application of this morality n englands hastily constructed bible was torn asunder by the infidel

on the 3st day australias moral sense had lapsed n england made a little goodness

too late to save the world n perhaps the ashes n power justice

(though this is clearly still undecided as all moral ground reverts to the oval)

1st day – no flintoff today

after an extended genesis a moment at last recognisable as the ashes – we ahab v the white whale.

all 15 days to this pointve held a sense of preliminarity – they were a setting up. figures were introduced developments vaguely sketched out erased reversioned alliances n rivalries suggested. but largely all remained unfamiliar. it is not 05. who knew what marcus north even looked like or recognised the work of hughess feet? warno did not appear his usual self. things were occuring in a strange land and the techniques of combat were not what we ahabve been accustomed to. ahab himself was sorely questioned. we too would be defined by this – that is were up for grabs.

we ahab pulled ferociously at harmisons length. prior to that clark proved a team is able to function without warno – a breakthrough in science. the pitchd pace n bounce. an australian all seam attack used this pace n bounce off a full length destroying the english top n middle orders siddle then tore the tail from the demon with short heroic savagery … tore off grendels arm

it was striking. it made an impression on the english bowlers suddenly they wanted to be siddle – to repeat his feats but the image they attempted to replicate consisted of only the heroic moment and not the considered movement toward that moment. drunk on pace n bounce they bowled short katich fed their delirium sacrificing himself early to a delivery sharply rising toward his throat. the bowlers arms thus spirited away from any bowlers rational control we ahab feasted. at least 2 of our ahabs pulls will remain as two of the greatest hits ever made in any form of combat. our ahabs innings had the platform of a masterpiece. in the background was everything that had gone before between him (us) and the whale. an epic rivalry renewed we ahab let our obsession run. earlier claras catching at 1st was exquisite. once nostalgia kicks in its immediately feeding the future callin it on.

headingleys a site of nostalgia flintoff the new bothams absent thingsre being reworked it is not 81 hughess feetre absent or belong now to someone else

waca 1 reversal

man i wanted to be at the waca today, the rickety stands and all the grass, the tones of green on the square were 2nd to none. the tonal modulation of the cricket pretty much matched it. giles looked frikkin great as 12th man – he’ll do a sterling job. pietersen looked brilliant with his little fighter pilot tache. the perfect maybe dashing maybe slightly dopey ghibli villain.

the match began amid endless chatter about about pitches not being what they used to, a call for the old consistency of variable pitches across the world as opposed to the new consistency of pitches. typical traits. always on the first morning at the waca. never enough slips in the cordon for channel 9. the start of the match was almost identical to the start at the gabba, langer off the mark playing off his toes and falling over and then lots of loose but safe shots through gaps or over the cordon for 4. australia let loose and going wild. then hoggard produced a near perfect ball to dismiss hayden & then ponting in the form off his life v harmison out of the form of his life but with one ball the reversal the series needed and harmy’s joy was unrestrained. it was as though the series started all over again again.

after these two wkts the game tightened up immensely. tight bowling, considered fighting batting. the day went on. wkts came out of the blue, just when australia looked to be cementing solid partnerships. no particularly great deliveries or poor shots but wkts all the same. i think langer let panesar bowl him just to make some sort of point about previous english selection – a sacrifice for the good of the game. he vaguely kind of pretended to try and keep it out. panesar was a joy to watch he had a bit of dance in his delivery and he ejects the ball on a nice trajectory. and the wkt comes he’s got a heap o dance in him then. symonds was a one over wonder and god its great to have him back too. harmison bowled a great spell to the tail.

with panesar in and harmison in form the english team is almost far too likeable. i guess the batsmen are still poms and lack any charm (barring KP of course), but as a bowling side i reckon theyre tops.

but if id been at the waca i would have missed the highlights reel of martos career that they played during the cricket show. i couldve watched it forever. hope theres a dvd.

day 2

its gone high

right toward that beautiful blue sky – odonnell

early on nothing for england to hold on to. harmison is a very different kind of animal. he brings the game alive but this life anticipates width with a cruel humour – harmy flies into the outer reaches of ridicule. its kinda sad to watch. he has the ability and the limbs to throw everything back into those cruel laughing faces, if only he can regain control of those arms those long bones. today his width seemed infectious. england bowled poorly all morning.

slowly, overtime, they clawed their way back into some sort of distinction. thanks to concerted work by flintoff and hoggard there were glimmers of an england that could be competitive at some point in the series. by the end of his long long days in the field even harmison was at least improving.

things became very frivolous when warne came to the crease, a nice relief after the intensity of pontings effort. australia have learnt how to modulate innings. when they got their chance to bowl they (as always in the old days when we used to hold the ashes) gave england a lesson in how to bowl.

mcgraths 2 openers in 2 balls was a highly emotionally charged little period. after months out of the game at janes side, after the speculation as to whether he could ever get back, and playing in quite possibly his last test series in australia… the sentimentality in those 2 deliveries was huge.

warney bowled the flipper first up and it had kp fooled for a moment. love his frivolity. love the way he disseminates information. cracks and pointed gags.
