The crowd shouting ‘Nel is a wanker’ could be far more ingenious and turn the chant into ‘Nel is a baddy’. He is the archetypal panto villain. The crowd should be shouting ‘he’s behind you’ to the umpire as he runs in to bowl. They’ve got the booing down to a tee it must be said. The air is always thick with nelodrama when he’s skulking around the corner!

Hah! I went to the 3day 4.1.06 of the AUS vs RSA test match, and let me tell you, how much the crowd (backed by a most obvious bunch of drunk aussies) gave it to Nel! Chanting “Nel is a wanka” *clap clap clap clap clap*, “Nel is a girl’s name” *clap clap clap clap clap* and various other ‘insults’. It was very funny though, and as a supporter of the Aussies myself, couldn’t help but join in; but, then again, it was an extremely catchy tune.
For the first few times Nel pretended not to hear it, but later, as a entertainer he is, turned around and put his hand to his hear (in a way meaning he couldn’t hear what everyone was saying) and then shortly afterwards started to join in with the clapping. He was probably a bit annoyed at first, but I think inside he loved getting all the attention.
It was very funny. I love cricket!
